Number of Millionaires in Bangladesh Exceeded One Lakh

The number of millionaires in the country has crossed one lakh for the first time. The number of millionaire depositors has increased by about 12,000 in one year. In the first nine months of this year, millionaires have increased to more than six thousand. In Corona alone, the number of millionaires has increased by about 16,000 in the last one and a half years.

Meanwhile, analysts believe that increasing the number of millionaires, although the decline in the income of the people during the Corona period, is increasing the income inequality in society. They say the size of the country's economy is growing. GDP growth and per capita income are increasing every year. But just as some people have become poorer, the rich have become richer. According to them, without increasing the quality of economic growth, more resources and money are being concentrated in a section of society.

According to the updated report of Bangladesh Bank, at the end of September this year, the total number of deposit savings accounts in the country stood at 12 crores 35 lakh 63 thousand 348. Deposits in these accounts are 14 lakh 72 thousand 8 crores. The number of accounts depositing one crore taka is one lakh 239. The amount deposited in these accounts is six lakh 39 thousand 265 crore taka. As of September last year, there were 6,490 accounts worth over Rs 1 crore. As a result, the number of millionaire accounts has increased by 12,849 in the last year.

In the first nine months of last year, millionaire deposit accounts increased to only 3,651. On the other hand, in December last year, 93,690 millionaire deposit accounts were in the country.

As a result, the number of millionaire depositors has increased by six thousand 349 in the first nine months of this year.

After the outbreak of Corona in the country in March last year (2020) has harmed the country's economy and the whole world. During this time, many lost their jobs and became unemployed. Again, the income of many is reduced. The number of newly impoverished people is not small. But at the same time, the income of one class of people has increased in reverse.

According to Bangladesh Bank, before the outbreak of Corona, the number of millionaire depositors in the country till March last year was 72,625. In September this year, it has increased to one lakh 239 people. As a result, the number of millionaire depositors in Corona has increased to 16,614 in the last one and a half years.

According to the report, the number of accounts has increased from one crore to five crores to 6,625. There are 11,069 accounts between Rs 5 crore and Rs 10 crore. There are three thousand 742 accounts between 10 crore and 15 crores.

From 15 crore to 20 crores, there are one thousand 640 accounts.

From 20 crore to 25 crores, there are one thousand 163 accounts.

There are 916 accounts between 25 crores and 30 crores. There are 430 accounts between Tk 30 crore and Tk 35 crore.

There are 327 accounts between 35 crores and 40 crores.

There are 729 accounts from 40 crores to 50 crores. And there are 1,559 accounts with deposits of more than Tk 50 crore.

According to the statistics of Bangladesh Bank, after independence in 1972, there were five millionaire depositors in the country; in 1975, it increased to 47 people.
